Hiking is all about adventure and experiencing the profound love of nature. The Ololosukuan Nature Trail is one of the most exciting expeditions I have been on recently. The family-owned property is located just a few kilometers from Nairobi, just at the foot of Ngong Hills. Here is a spot for hiking near Nairobi that you are certain to enjoy.
Ololosukuan has an air of tranquility about it. The calm and peaceful environment is just the perfect getaway spot especially for people who live around Nairobi. The place has the perfect package that will definitely be worth your time. Apart from the delicious Nyama Choma, the place offers sightseeing, bouldering and hiking trails. If you need to do some reflecting and soul-searching, this is the opportune paradise to do all of that.
Most of my hiking adventures around Nairobi are usually based on spontaneity and impromptu decisions and this Ololosukuan was no exception. I believe that we have to make our own paths in life. The fundamentals of hiking dictate that one must bring with them the appropriate gear which includes footwear. I guess someone in our group did not get the memo that high heels were not ideal for hiking. On the particular day, we left Nairobi very early in morning anticipating to engage in as many activities as possible. It is most advisable to go on a hike as a group. However, Kaima who is the owner’s son is okay with showing individuals around. On all the hiking trails I have been on I have to say this one was a little bit different but very interesting. It is not a difficult one therefore easy to be on.
Camping and hiking near Nairobi
The Ololosukuan nature trail sits on a property that is the greater Savanna Sunset Resort. For campers, there are great camping sites with a breathtaking view. Comfortingly, they come for a very nominal price. The Great Rift Valley view is a sight to behold, visible as soon as one descends through the bushes. It is important to note that a guide is available to show you the safest and best routes, it is however exciting to attempt climbing rocks that are way further from the path. Camping and hiking near Nairobi; how impressive is that š
Average hikers take around 2 hours to complete the entire trail; could take much less or more depending on one’s own individual mojo and hiking spirit . The trails left by the Ololosukuan River stood out the most for me. Just when one thought that they had come to the end, an even more interesting terrain presented itself. The riverbed is stacked with huge rocks that one has to climb over if they have to get to the top ā not far off the starting point.
The nature trail allows for activities like rock climbing, bird watching, game watching, hiking, scenery viewing and sightseeing, and team building activities. As such, it comes highly recommended for individuals and groups alike, age notwithstanding.
I caught the sunset; always worth it š
Lots of people have been asking for the best place for hiking near Nairobi. There you go. You have to love Ololosukuan.
As always, this is how we remember to rock on. Not much planning is required, so do not overthink it. Dive right in, and find a new path ā one that is assured to all wanderers.
Cheers to rocking!
